From the pomp andsplendour of imperial St. Petersburg to the ancient nomadic lifestyle ofSiberian reindeer herders; from the unique beauty of Lake Baikal to themajestic volcanic ranges of the far east; from the peaceful banks ofthe Don River to the thriving nightlife of Moscow, we will see the vastbreadth of landscape and experience and gauge the desires andaspirations of the inhabitants of this young democracy. Spanning 10 timezones across Europe and northern Asia, Russia is a huge canvas on whichmany of our global dilemmas are painted. From the rapaciousexploitation of natural resources to the meeting of major faiths, the145 million people of Russia have much to come to terms with.
Overthe course of one year, Discovery Atlas: Russia Revealed follows thelives of seven characters as they redefine what it means to live in achanging country that makes up one-eighth of the worlds landmass: the17-year-old gymnast graduating from circus school who dreams of theglorious traditions of Soviet circus; the Priest serving thelong-repressed Orthodox believers of the Don River Basin on a floatingchurch; the Moscow fashion publisher developing a new title in one ofthe fastest-growing markets in the world. The film will observe thepersonal triumphs and tribulations of these lives, shedding light onancient traditions and brand new aspirations to reveal the true natureof Russias soul.
